Lead Software Engineer – Java Developer Job Overview The Lead Software Engineer will lead software engineering projects and drive the development and delivery of enhanced software solutions. This role involves designing scalable technical solutions, researching alternative technologies, guiding engineering teams, and ensuring that daily team activities meet defined service-level agreements. The ideal candidate should have strong Java development experience, deep software engineering knowledge, and the ability to lead complex projects with long-term business impact. Key Responsibilities Lead major software engineering projects and complex assignments with broad scope and strategic business impact. Design innovative, cost-effective, high-quality technical solutions with faster time to market. Lead day-to-day system development and maintenance activities to meet SLAs. Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to identify opportunities, define scope, assess ROI, and evaluate risks, benefits, and constraints. Contribute to technical strategy and manage complex issues within the functional area of expertise. Develop strategic technical plans and architecture proposals based on identified solution gaps. Lead the planning, design, and implementation of technical solutions as a subject matter expert. Create solution definitions, architecture designs, and technology roadmaps. Support management in business case development, scenario planning, and effective decision-making. Present technical solutions, recommendations, and project updates to management, business owners, and stakeholders. Research current and emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry trends. Ensure compliance with Mastercard standards, security practices, and audit requirements. Coordinate offshore development teams and manage day-to-day technical activities. Support project reporting, software metrics collection, and process improvement initiatives. Mentor, coach, and guide team members across all phases of the SDLC. Lead production incident management, root cause analysis, and remediation activities. Conduct technical training, knowledge-sharing sessions, and brown bag sessions on new technologies and frameworks. Support the selection of technical resources for projects. Create and maintain documentation templates and ensure proper documentation throughout the development lifecycle. Represent the team during compliance audits and ensure security and compliance requirements are integrated into the SDLC. Education Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. Required Experience 5 to 8 years of experience in a related software engineering role. 5 to 8 years of experience delivering secure software solutions, preferably in the financial services sector. Strong knowledge of software engineering concepts, methodologies, and SDLC practices. Strong experience in Java development and enterprise application development. Experience with architecture design, solution development, quality engineering, and production support. Ability to work in a matrix-based, diverse, and geographically distributed team environment.
