Job Description
Role Summary The Senior Design Engineer – Mechanical is responsible for leading mechanical design activities across complex engineering projects. The role involves hands-on design, analysis, system integration, and mentoring of junior engineers. The incumbent will contribute to new product development, design optimization, reliability improvement, and technology advancement in aerospace, defence, automotive, or industrial machinery systems. Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical design activities from concept to production Perform detailed design calculations for mechanical systems and components Conduct reliability analysis and MTBF calculations at component and system levels Select and size mechanical components including gears, bearings, shafts, couplings, springs, fasteners, and keys Select suitable materials and manufacturing processes based on performance, cost, and reliability Perform tolerance stack-up and manufacturability analysis Collaborate with electrical engineers to select and size electric motors Develop conceptual and detailed designs using CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD Perform structural, thermal, and vibration analysis using simulation tools Support prototype development, testing, validation, and system integration Review and approve designs created by junior engineers Interface with cross-functional teams, customers, and non-technical stakeholders Ensure compliance with engineering standards, quality requirements, and best practices Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience Experience Requirements Proven experience in designing: Aerospace and/or defence systems and mechanisms Automotive components Industrial machinery or complex mechanical systems Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers Technical Skills Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including: Mechanism design Thermal engineering Design calculations and engineering documentation DFMECA and reliability engineering GD&T application and interpretation Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling and detailing) Experience in Finite Element Analysis and Thermal Analysis: Linear and nonlinear analysis Static, dynamic, structural, and vibrational analysis Transient thermal analysis Hands-on experience with: ANSYS ANSYS Workbench Ice pak Behavioural & Leadership Competencies Strong communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated problem-solving ability and analytical thinking People management and mentoring capability Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Willingness and ability to learn new technologies quickly Work Environment Cross-functional engineering environment Interaction with internal teams, suppliers, and customers Hands-on involvement in design, testing, and integration activities
